Married name: Michaels, born ‎6 Apr 1822 Urbana Ohio, died ‎12 Jun 1918 Emporia Kansas‎, 96 years, buried ‎ Ossawatomie Kansas
OBITUARY: Emporia Gazette June 12, 1918 P. 4 Col. 4

Mrs. Evaline Mathis died this morning at 12:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.S. Spiker, who lives five and one-half miles northeast of Emporia. Mrs. Michaels was 96 years old. She was born April 6, 1822 at Urbana, Ohio. She was the daughter of Job and Judith Horn Mathis and the last survivor of a family of twelve children, a sister having died in June, 1914 at the age of 90 years. Evaline Mathis moved with her parents from Ohio to Magnolia, Illinois where she met and married Newton Michaels in 1853. To Mr. and Mrs. Michaels were born eight children, three daughters and five sons, of whom four survive her. They are John G. Michaels of De Beque, Colorado; B. Frank Michaels, Ossawatomie, Kansas; Samuel C. Michaels of Ottawa, Kansas and Mrs. Mary Spiker of Emporia. Mrs. Michaels leaves also fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Michaels died in 1881. She was a member of the Clear Creek Society of McNabb, Illinois, but after coming to Kansas she was not located near a Friends Church so she threw her influence with the Baptist Society of her home community. She led a consistent Christian life and was a devoted wife and mother. In March, 1912, she was stricken with paralysis and was never able to leave her bed afterward, but accepted her lot uncomplainingly and was most grateful for all kindnesses shown her by her family and friends. The body will be taken tomorrow to Ossawatomie, Mrs. Michaels former home, leaving Admire on the Missouri Pacific at 1:17 o'clock. The funeral will be held in Ossawatomie tomorrow afternoon and interment will be made in the cemetery there. No services will be held here, but the casket will be open at the home tomorrow morning.
