John House, son of John Valentine House and Bukovan. Born 1747 Frederick Md, died 1836/1840, approximately 89 years He married Mary (Polly) Chaplin about 1775. John died 1836-1840 in Carroll or Columbiana County, Ohio. Declaration for pension for Revolutionary service was made 20 Apr 1836 when living in Carroll County, Ohio. In 1840 widow Mary living in Washington Twp., Columbiana County, Ohio. He stated he served under General Clark as a spy in the Ohio Country. That he moved to Ohio about 1819 from his home in Cacapon, Hampshire County, VA. In 1840 widow Mary was 80 to 90 years of age. The deeds in Hampshire County in the name of John House (probably John Sr. and Jr. totalled 570 acres on North Branch from 1779 to 1815, and 419 acres on Patterson's Creek in 1791. John was named security to will of William Anderson of Hampshire County in 1786; was on the jury 17 Apr 1789; witness to deed of Charles Clinton of Fayette County, PA. in 1775; to deed by Adam Fake in 1794. John and brother Andrew said to be the first settlers west of Fort Cumberland.
