Mrs. Loring's hair is dressed in loops over her ears and her fashionable costume includes a lace-edged tucker, and collapsed leg-of-mutton sleeves pleated above the elbow. The drawing measures 11.7 by 15.8 inches (29.7 by 40.1 cm). A native of Maine, Olive Emory married Ezekiel Loring and moved to Ohio. Her brother Nathan Emory was a Methodist circuit rider who preached in central Ohio. Census records indicate that Olive was living with her son Nathan Loring in Blendon Township in the 1830s and 1840s, which indicates that she was a widow. A county map indicates that O. Loring owned property in that township. 2. Reverend Nathan E EmeryBorn 5 Aug 1780 Maine, died 27 May 1849 Westerville, Franklin County, Ohio, 68 years, buried Olde Methodist Cemetery.
