pg 198. 4 Jan 1857. William Floyd, agent and next friend of Phalonia Ann, David L., Reuben C., Elizabeth Jane and Lucy N. Bomar, minor children of W.W. Bomar, dec'd.

pg 198. 8 Jan 1857. Elvira A. Bomar, adminstratrix of W.W. Bomar, Dec'd.

In the fall of 1853, according to the account of one of WJB's granddaughters, five of his sons came to Texas with their families and an uncle "Tommy Terry" (see "A Letter from Mrs. Ledbetter" Frontier Times, Vol 5, No 7, Apr 1928, p. 299). In this same published letter, Jennettie Bomar Ledbetter stated, "The family's health was so bad in Cooke and Grayson counties a friend, Dr. J. W. Hudson, advised my father to move to San Saba county, so he came here in August, 1857 . . ." William Wilshire Bomar died in Texas in 1854 and is buried in the Austin Street Cemetery in Sherman, Texas. Dr Nathaniel Terry Bomar, another of the brothers, moved to Gainesville, Texas, where he set up his medical practice and remained until his death in 1898. Spencer Edmond Bomar remained in Sherman and died there in 1900. James Riley Bomar, Mrs. Ledbetter's father, moved to San Saba County where he lived until his death in 1917. David Terry Bomar presumably brought his family to Texas and returned to Tennessee before the 1860 census (perhaps at the same time as Elvira Willis Bomar). There is no mention of WJB coming to Texas with his sons, but the burial record found in the Sherman Public Library for W J Bomar, died 1854, would indicate that he did [see Note (1) above].

After the death of her husband, William Wilshire Bomar, in Grayson County Texas, Elvira A Bomar returned to TN. There she became administrator of his estate in Jan 1857. On the same page of the Administrator's Settlement Book 1854-1865 p 3 that gave us that information we found the names of all of there children: Phalonia Ann, David L. Reuben C., Elizabeth Jane and Lucy N Bomar "minor children of W.W. Bomar, dec'd" with William Floyd "agent and next friend".

Mrs E A Bomar is buried in the same cemetery as her daughter, Lizzie Bomar, wife of J. M . Wood. Both are buried in Wood Cemetery, Centerville, Warren County, TN.

Tennessee records show that William Wilshire Bomar's widow, Elvira Willis Bomar, returned to Tennessee with their five children shortly after his death (see DeKalb County Administrators Settlement, 1854-1865 page 2: "pg 78, 26 Feb 1855"). If WJB's body had been transported to Tennessee, this would have been a logical time for it. Given the documented confusion (see following notes) over the details of the lives of the various William Bomars, I tend to believe that WJB is buried in Texas. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/BOMAR/2007-08/1186393849

Reubens command originally started in Tennessee. A witness by the name of W.L. Martin stated and signed legal doc. that he knew Reuben Bomar in the Confederate service. He saw Reuben in the Battle of Murferessboro, Tennesse on the firing line and knew he was a true and good soldier, and that before his enlistment, he (Reuben) lived in the town of Alexandria, Tenn.W.L. Martin signed his name and stated he was Gen. Buffords escort. August 12, 1913
====================

The 44th Tennessee Infantry Regiment was first organized at Camp Trousdale, Tennessee, on December 16th, 1861. After the 44th suffered heavy losses at Shiloh, the regiment was consolidated with the 55th (McKoin's) Tennessee Infantry, a regiment which had also suffered heavily at that battle, and the two regiments were then reorganized and designated as the 44th Consolidated Tennessee Infantry. The 44th Infantry then fought in all the battles of the Army of Tennessee through Chickamauga. After that battle, the regiment was assigned to Longstreet's Corps, and participated in the Knoxville campaign. It's final duties involved long months in and around the defenses of Petersburg, Virginia. On 2 April,1865, the 44th's position in the lines was over-run, and most of the regiment was captured. The few that escaped surrendered with Lee at Appomattox.
