On Thursday, March 20, Alex F. Corbitt, well-known in this city, died at his home at Hawthorne, Montgomery County, Iowa, from congestion of the lungs following an attack of la grippe. His remains are interred at Red Oak, six miles from Hawthorne. Alex Corbitt was born in Des Moines County, Flint River township, March 26th, 1853, just thirty-seven years ago to-day. He was the son of William Corbitt, the well-known farmer. About seven years ago he was married to Miss Martha Ewing and two years later he removed with his young wife to his farm at Hawthorne. The deceased was a man of most excellent qualities which made for him many friends in this city and the surrounding country. He leaves a wife and one child, a boy to whom he was a devoted husband and father and they were in his thoughts to the end, for the last words he uttered were, “God be merciful to my wife and child.”
