L. and Mary Martin were charter members of the Callisburg Methodist Church, Cooke County, TX. formed in 1898. Prior to this they were Baptist. After the Civil War, W.L. owned a drug store in Franklin, TN. (this would be between 1865 and 1879) He left TN in 1879. L. moved to Texas in 1879 and settled in Cooke County in 1882, he sent for her. She met him in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas. They had a son at the time, Edgar Martin. M. E. got sick and couldn't get better (consumption). Her parents wanted her to come home to "better doctors" to get well. She went home but never recovered. She died at her parents home in Tennessee |

Married 9 Oct 1889 Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas (35 years married) to: Mary Elizabeth Riley Married name: Martin, born 28 Dec 1856 Hope, Hempstead County, AR, died 3 Sep 1933 Gainseville, Cook Tx, 76 years Mary also had two brothers named Lawrence Riley, and Jim Riley. She also had 3 sisters. Two sisters moved to Deleon, Texas and married two Lightfoot brothers. One Lightfoot descendant became Superintendent of School in Dublin, TX and another became a Methodist preacher. One of the Lightfoot couples had a daughter (name unknown) who married a Parker who had a son named Fess Parker, movie star for Walt Disney, best known for his portrait of Davy Crockett. Fess Parker was raised in Comanche, TX. |
